Twilight golf: get more for your money…while you still can.

By • Aug 21st, 2009

As the heat of the summer will surely press on, the summer months are dwindling. As kids start back to school, all of us Phoenix golf lovers can get ready for an uncomfortable green fee increase. However, it’s not too late to take advantage of some amazing rates at some of the area’s best courses.

While general rates are at their lowest, twilight rates (and I’m not talking about the movie) are lower still. Almost every course in the Valley features incredible discounts if you’re willing to fight the summer sun and tee off after the morning rush is over.

Yes, the heat can be hard to handle, but I honestly would trade waiting on every tee in the morning for having a warmer but typically empty golf course in the afternoon. So lather on the sunscreen, drink plenty of water and get ready to take advantage of the last few weeks of the summer twilight rates.

I’ve compiled some highlights of the best deals around for the remainder of the summer and I hope you get the opportunity to take advantage of them and play some amazing golf courses for well beneath the premium rates.

Arguably the two best deals come from two of my favorite courses: Kierland Golf Club and Raven South Mountain.

Kierland Golf Course is featuring a regular morning rate of $90 to enjoy the plush fairways that flank the immaculate Westin Kierland Resort, but you can sleep in and save yourself some serious cash. Until September 13th, you can enjoy a twilight rate of $55. In my eyes, this is a no brainer. After all, they have a covered driving range AND air-conditioned golf carts…if you can’t handle the heat with those amenities then I can’t help you!

Raven at South Mountain has regular rates ranging from $69 during the week to $79 on the weekend. If you’ve been hesitant to challenge yourself on the pristine layout, now is the time to head to the first tee swinging for the fences. Until October 4th you can enjoy a twilight rate of just $35! So treat yourself to a nice brunch and then put on your safari hat and bring plenty of golf balls!

Several other of my favorite courses are offering unbeatable twilight rates, including The Golf Club of Estrella, which until October 4th you can play for $30 during the week and $40 on the weekend under the twilight umbrella.

Recently honored by Golf Digest as one of the Top 30 Courses in Arizona, Longbow Golf Club has twilight rates of just $35 until September 3rd, and then it jumps up to $46. So get out and enjoy the Ken Kavanaugh masterpiece.

From one award winner to another, if you’re looking for a PGA Tour caliber experience look no further than Grayhawk Golf Club, the home of the PGA Tour’s FRYS.COM Open. They have re-defined the meaning of twilight golf. If you tee off after 9:39 (that’s right, their twilight starts at 9:39!) you can play this world famous golf course for just $50. But your time window is closing fast, as those rates won’t be around after September 17th.

The Raven at Verrado is offering more than just a twilight golf rate, they have put together an unbeatable deal that should peak your interest in taking the 30-minute drive west of downtown. The Verrado Package, as they call it, gets you much more than just a round of golf in a cart. Along with full-access to the practice facilities you get to enjoy a meal at the famed Verrado Grill, a complimentary drink and snack from the beverage cart, but that’s not all! If you have time, you can replay the course for FREE! All this for just $84, but act now as this deal will evaporate soon.
